Super Moon
“When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; what is man, that thou art mindful of him? …Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you.” Psalms 8:3-4 & James 4:8
Last night, March 19th, the full moon was at its closest distance to earth in over 18 years. The brilliance of the moon and its prominence in the sky was breathtaking to me. Some scientists call it the Super Moon. But the irony of this Super Moon heavenly event is that it occurred on the very day NATO allies attacked Libya and fears of a nuclear meltdown in post-earthquake/tsunami Japan grew greater. In the very midst of our uncertainty, we see a Super Moon.
Is God telling us something? At a time in our generation that we are now involved in three wars, experiencing scores of natural disasters and watching revolution break out in nation after nation across the world; many often ask: ‘where is God’.
Last night’s lunar light reminded me that God is closer to us in our tough times than ever before. The apostle James says that all we have to do is ‘draw close to God and He will draw closer to us’. But we have to forfeit the lusts of this life, purify our hearts and head in His direction. He’s absolutely waiting on us, just like a Super Moon!
The people of the planet earth need heavenly order in their lives. Economic hardship, civil war, and eruptions in nature are affecting us all and there seems to be a lack of human order in our society. God speaks to us in all our travails and has the capacity to dry our tears and bring peace to our world.
So consider the work of the Super Moon and draw close to God. The flashing brilliance of one moon on one night sent me a sign that everything will be alright.
